An industrial single-needle lockstitch machine head with a full-rotary hook and automatic lubrication. A motor under the table drives it by V-belt, and the operator trims the thread by hand.

What the DDL-8700 does on a factory floor

Room to slide thick seams under the foot

Juki gives the DDL-8700 a 5.5 mm lift by hand and up to 13 mm with the knee lifter. Its manual sets the knee lift at 10 mm as standard, and the mechanic can raise it to 13 mm.

On the factory floorThe knee lifter raises the foot up to 13 mm, so the operator slides thick seams under it while both hands stay on the garment.

Full-rotary hook, automatic lubrication

Oil to the hook from a pan under the head

The hook is Juki's automatic-lubricating full-rotary type, fed from an oil pan with HIGH and LOW marks. An oil sight window shows splashing oil when lubrication is right, and a screw on the hook shaft bushing sets how much oil reaches the hook.

On the factory floorThe hook takes its oil automatically from the pan under the head, so nobody oils it by hand, and the sight window shows the mechanic when lubrication is right.

Light-touch stitch dial

Stitch length set by hand, up to 5 mm

Stitch length is set on a dial on the arm that Juki calls light-touch, up to 5 mm. The throat plate carries marker grooves that operators use as a guide for seam allowance.

On the factory floorBecause stitch length is set on a dial on the arm, the supervisor changes it between operations by hand, and the throat plate grooves guide the seam allowance.

  • Feed dog set with an eccentric pin

    Juki added an eccentric pin for adjusting the feed dog, which makes feed settings quicker during maintenance.

  • Attachment mounting seat

    A seat on the bed for folders and guides, so attachments go on and off without wearing the bed surface.

  • Low-tension sewing

    Juki tuned the sewing mechanism for low thread tension, so seams come out even across different cloths.

What is the difference between the DDL-8700 and the DDL-8700-7?

The DDL-8700 is the manual model: a belt-driven head, the thread trimmed by hand, 5,500 stitches a minute and up to 5 mm stitch length. The DDL-8700-7 adds an automatic thread trimmer, automatic reverse feed and Juki's SC-920C control box with the 450 W M92 servo motor, plus an operation panel that counts output. Juki rates the DDL-8700-7 at 5,000 stitches a minute and 4 mm stitch length. Choose the DDL-8700-7 when time spent trimming and backtacking holds the line back.

What fabrics and needles does the DDL-8700 take?

Juki lists it for light and medium-weight materials: shirting, cotton and uniform cloth. It takes DB×1 needles from size 9 to 18 and leaves the factory with a #14. For heavy materials Juki makes the DDL-8700H, which takes #19 to #23 needles. Ask us if you need it.

Is the Juki DDL-8700 a direct-drive machine?

No. Juki builds the DDL-8700 as a belt-driven head: a V-belt runs from a motor under the table, and Juki's standard motor is a 400 W clutch motor. We quote the head with the table, stand and motor together.
