The 12-E joins two pieces edge to edge with a wide, flat butted seam. Merrow states that the seam sits nearly as flat as the material itself, so equipment further down the line is not affected the way it is by a bulkier stitch.
Merrow describes the 12-E as an extra high lift, single needle, single row machine built with robust parts and heavy duty steel. Merrow states that the long arm design and the high looper and needle throw give the clearance needed on rigid material, and that the 6 inch hand wheel and the 1/4 inch plain feed looper gauge supply the torque to penetrate thick material. Merrow lists carpet, leather, Kevlar, carbon fibre, fibreglass, turf and other geotextiles among its uses.
